All Stars Games
Tyne Met All Stars Games
The Tyne Met basketball league held their first end of season all stars games in several years. Players who received the most MVP`s throughout the season from each team in the league were brought together to create thrilling games in the categories of, D1/D2 North v South and D3/D4 North v South.
Graham Heath, head coach of the Newcastle East Griffins led the D1/D2 North, while Kath Hopper of Boldon took charge of the D1/D2 South team. The D3/D4 North team was coached by Dave Mullen of FOWS, and Mark Lancaster of All saints Sabres led the D3/D4 South side.
The D1/D2 game was very close throughout, giving the spectators an exciting afternoon of basketball, with the South taking the first quarter 25-19 thanks to superb finishing from Hopper and him taking a 16 point personal in the 1st. The 2nd quarter began with some great defence from the North which led to them making a 6 without reply. The North took control of the 2nd from this point in the game, thanks to some good work from C Rennison-Rae and R Copeland. The North side went into the break with a well deserved 47-39 lead. The 3rd belonged to coach Heaths North side but only after allowing the South to take a 9 without reply at the start of the quarter. The leaders then stepped up their game thanks to Copeland hitting back to back 3 pointers. The South started the 4th with some good defence limiting the North to only 12 points in the 4th , this allowed the South to get back into the game and createing a very tight finish with the North taking the game by only 1 point. Overall this was an excellent game of basketball.
The D3/D4 started with the North side taking the lead thanks to L Pickering, and they continued to dominate the first 4 minutes of the game. The South then stepped up thier game in the 1st quarter and taking it 33-23 thanks to some good basketball from B Hadfield. The 2nd quater started the same as the 1st with the North taking the first 4 points of the quarter and going on a 13-4 point run , bringing the game back to just 1 point. Some bad defending allowed the south to gain back the advantage and take a 53-42 into the break. The South side looked to strong for the North in the 3rd which was proved by the South taking the quarter 21-14, this allowed the South to take a 18 point lead into the 4th; the North tried to fight their way back into the game with some good work from L Summerville, however this was not enough and the South took the quarter by 2 points and the game 99-79.
The winners of the games were the D1/D2 North and D3/D4 South. Huge congratulations goes to all coaches and teams.

Knock Out Cup 2009/10
The results of the four divisional Knock-Out Cup Finals are below:Division 4: Oxclose Beavers 46 : 94 North Shields All Stars
Division 3: Phoenix Flames 79 : 75 All Saints Sabres
Division 2: Oxclose Cougars 66 : 81 P&G Giants
Division 1: Oxclose Sharks 57 : 75 Churchill Hornets
The winning teams are in bold and underscored.
Congratulations to all of the teams for making to the Finals, and especially to the Oxclose Club for having representation in 3 of the Finals.
The game of the day was undoubtedly the Division 3 game: a very hard-fought contest between Flames and Sabres. The lead swung back and forth no fewer than 10 times during the 4 quarters of play with Sabres holding it 75:72 going into the final 2 minutes of the game. But that's where Sabres' scoring faltered and Flames' Appleby took the final basket of the game in the tenth minute and tied the game up by sinking the and-one. Sabres tried fouling to get the ball back but, with both teams in the penalty, Appleby and Jordan scored a pair of free-throws each from the charity stripe to clinch the game for Phoenix.
Thanks to the floor and table officials on the day for making things go smoothly, and to Paul Graham and the CitySpace staff for making the day happen.
